All participants in National University of Kaohsiung’s (NUK) “Industrial Talent Development Program—BIM Architectural Design and Construction Engineering Practice” successfully passed the international BIM certification examination, with 75% achieving full marks. The program concluded on August 28, maintaining the 100% pass rate achieved last year. This year’s training further extended beyond architectural modeling to include on-site construction visits and industry networking, strengthening the connection between professional BIM training and real-world construction practices.
The program was guided by the Kaohsiung-Pingtung-Penghu-Taitung Regional Branch of the Workforce Development Agency, Ministry of Labor, and organized by NUK’s Research Center for Intelligent Architecture and Interactive Simulation. Liang Kai-Hsiang, Assistant Professor of the Department of Architecture and the program’s principal investigator, explained that BIM (Building Information Modeling) has been widely adopted in architectural design, construction coordination, and project management. Building on a practice-oriented approach, this year’s curriculum covered architectural modeling, construction engineering simulation, and collaborative design projects, enabling participants to develop practical skills from design through construction management.
Liang further noted that BIM talent development involves more than software proficiency. Professionals must also understand the coordination among design, construction, and different disciplines. The program therefore incorporated resources and real-world project experience from the architecture and construction industries, allowing participants to understand BIM applications through practical scenarios and narrowing the gap between classroom training and actual industry practice.
As part of the program, participants visited a construction site operated by Yongqing Construction in the Kaohsiung Software Park, where they exchanged experiences with the company’s BIM drafting team. Liu Tsung-Han, director of the BIM team, shared insights into the application and development of BIM from the perspective of frontline construction practice. Participants also visited the “Kaohsiung Temple” construction site undertaken by Longjin Construction, where they observed how multidisciplinary and international teams use BIM to integrate information, manage complex interfaces, and coordinate construction requirements. Vice President Lien also shared practical industry experience, helping participants understand how digital tools are applied beyond model creation and incorporated into actual construction operations.
The program also extended its outcomes toward employment opportunities. At the closing ceremony on August 28, an industry networking and recruitment session was held, bringing together representatives from Hong-Hsien United Architects, Hong-Chang Management Consultants, Lih Ming Construction, and Gandain System Interior Decoration, among others. Participants had the opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals and learn about potential career pathways. Chang Po-Shuo, CEO of Hong-Hsien United Architects, recognized the cohort’s outstanding results, including the 100% certification pass rate and 75% full-mark rate, and encouraged participants to continue building their BIM expertise and practical experience to prepare for their future careers.
