The Concept of University Affairs Development and Vision

The Concept of University Affairs Development

Based on the University's mission of "Researching Academics, Nurturing Talents, Enhancing Cultures, Serving Society, and Promoting National Development," the University, in addition to upholding its original goals and philosophy, has responded to the social expectations for comprehensively enhancing the quality of the university, diversifying the development of higher education, and fulfilling the University's Social Responsibility (USR). The University has expanded its efforts in innovative teaching and industry-academia cooperation to achieve its mission of "deepening the local, connecting with the international, and fulfilling social responsibility" in order to achieve the vision of "a distinctive university with an international reputation" of the university.

Founding Philosophy and Special Characteristics

Internally, the University takes the local interpretation of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) as its core driving force, and continues to refine the realization of key goals and institutional improvements. Externally, the University connects with a strategic alliance of industry, government and academia as well as with international partners, namely the universities in Southeast Asia, to jointly interpret the SDGs, USR, and ESG concepts. We have internalized the SDGs into NUK, in line with the Executive Yuan's "Digital Nation‧Innovative Economy Development Program", "5+2 Industrial Innovation", "Energy Transformation", and "Taiwan 2050 Net Zero Emission Strategy", in order to cultivate interdisciplinary talents required for national development. Through “SDGs-Inside", the University has set four major goals for development, including "integration of learning and application and interdisciplinary teaching", "special research and industry linkage", "sustainable university and deepening of literacy", and "social responsibility, internationalization, and local linkage", and is committed to achieving the positioning of "a distinctive and high-quality university that combines teaching, research, and industrial development, and that emphasizes humanistic literacy and scientific and technological innovation in order to cultivate elite talents".

In recent years, NUK has actively cooperated with the national and industrial talent cultivation policies to give full play to the value of the university. In terms of talent cultivation, courses such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, AR and VR (augmented reality and virtual reality) have been offered, and in 2021 in cooperation with ASE Group, it established a school-level industry-academic cooperation center to cultivate high-tech talents, and successively AVR+ SCHOOL to cultivate somatosensory technology talents in response to the needs of the Executive Yuan's Greater South Project to build Kaohsiung as the center of 5G, AIoT, and high-end manufacturing. In terms of sustainable development, the University was ranked among the top quarter of the world's top 300 green universities in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, demonstrating the University's outstanding achievements in promoting environmental sustainability, with the best performance in infrastructure and transportation projects.
