National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) recently hosted its Semiconductor Week series of events, featuring a Talent Matching Coffee Meet-Up held at Louisa Coffee. The event invited industry representatives and alumni to return to campus for close-range conversations with students, creating opportunities for direct dialogue and career exploration in a casual, everyday setting.
Jointly organized by NUK’s Office of Research and Development and the Advanced Packaging Integration Technology Center, the event attracted more than 200 student participants. Unlike traditional career lectures, the networking event was intentionally designed to take place in a familiar campus environment where students could interact face-to-face with recruiters and alumni.
Rather than simply listening to presentations, students were able to ask questions about résumé preparation, internship opportunities, job responsibilities, and career development paths. The relaxed atmosphere helped students who were unfamiliar with the semiconductor industry feel more comfortable initiating conversations.
Wu Sung-Mao, Vice President for Research and Development, explained that NUK continues to respond to the rapid growth of southern Taiwan’s semiconductor industry by strengthening curriculum design and industry collaboration opportunities. He noted that the April 29 networking event was centered on authentic interaction, allowing students to better understand career pathways through informal yet meaningful conversations with alumni and employers.
Several alumni from different professional roles and career stages shared that many students struggle to visualize their future careers before entering the workforce. Common questions often include whether to pursue graduate school or internships, and how to bridge gaps between academic preparation and industry expectations.
ASE Technology Holding equipment engineer Tsai Chieh-Heng, an NUK electrical engineering alumnus, and senior HR specialist Hsu Wei-Ting from Taiflex Scientific Co., Ltd. emphasized that companies increasingly value interdisciplinary flexibility and practical internship experience alongside academic qualifications.
Meanwhile, senior engineer Lin Wei-Chin from Zhen Ding Technology Holding Limited and quality assurance deputy manager Hsieh Ya-Wen from OSE Technology Holding Co., Ltd. introduced students to broader operational perspectives across the semiconductor supply chain.
Corporate HR representatives also praised the event format. HR section chief Yao Po-Yen from Zhen Ding Technology Holding Limited and HR specialist Tu Ya-Hsun from OSE Technology Holding Co., Ltd. noted that the event created a warm and interactive space where companies could better understand the career expectations and concerns of younger generations.
They also highlighted how the event was closely aligned with NUK’s semiconductor curriculum, creating more precise industry-academia connections rather than broad recruitment outreach.
For students, the event also became an opportunity for self-reflection.
Electrical Engineering student Li Yi-Ling shared that speaking directly with recruiters helped her realize that companies value not only technical expertise but also attitude, communication skills, and proactive learning—prompting her to rethink how she prepares for her future career.
In recent years, NUK has actively expanded semiconductor talent development by building an educational ecosystem that covers the full industry chain—from wafer manufacturing to circuit boards, substrates, packaging, and testing.
Through partnerships with companies such as TSMC, Zhen Ding Technology Holding Limited, OSE Technology Holding Co., Ltd., and Taiflex Scientific Co., Ltd., NUK continues to offer diverse academic programs, hands-on courses, company visits, and industry engagement opportunities that prepare students for rapidly evolving technological careers.
