The Continuing Education Center at the National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) held the completion ceremony for its Senior University Program on June 12. Participants were specially dressed in academic gowns, and Center Director Chih-Wen Chen presented completion certificates, encouraging learners to continue pursuing knowledge and living vibrant, fulfilling lives.

The ceremony was filled with warmth and joy, reflecting the enthusiasm, growth mindset, and active participation of mature learners. It also marked a successful conclusion to a rich and rewarding semester of learning.

Chen stated that lifelong learning is an important force in responding to an aging society. Through diverse courses and learning activities, the Continuing Education Center continues to support participants in exploring new knowledge, expanding social connections, and maintaining both intellectual curiosity and vitality. He encouraged mature learners to continue growing and realizing their potential at every stage of life.

This semester’s Senior University Program offered a wide range of courses, including intergenerational communication, practical legal knowledge, senior café experiences, mental health, cardiopulmonary activation and muscle balance training, distinguished lectures, board games, film appreciation and life experience dialogue, digital literacy, and AI assistant applications.

The curriculum integrated physical and mental health, humanities education, and practical life skills, helping participants broaden their perspectives, enrich their daily lives, and put lifelong learning into practice.

Beyond classroom learning, the program also included an off-campus visit to the Pingtung Rescue Center for Endangered Wild Animals at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology. Through the visit, participants learned about wildlife rescue, care, and rehabilitation, while reflecting on the value of coexistence between humans and nature.

With support from the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Sprout Project, the Continuing Education Center also assisted participants in forming clubs and invited experts to offer a staghorn fern handicraft course. Combining horticultural aesthetics with creative crafting, the course guided learners through plant care, design, and hands-on creation, fostering practical skills, aesthetic appreciation, and social interaction.

NUK also continues to promote mature-age education through its self-funded Smart Senior Learning Program, featuring courses on retirement financial planning, health management, smart technology, humanities reading, and in-depth travel. Taught by NUK faculty members, the program provides mature learners with more diverse opportunities to enrich themselves, improve quality of life, and practice lifelong learning.
