The National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) continues to strengthen cross-institutional collaboration and higher education linkages. On January 9, NUK and the Republic of China Military Academy (ROCMA) held a renewal ceremony for the second phase of their strategic alliance, building on the partnership established in 2020. The renewed agreement will deepen and institutionalize cooperation in teaching, research, technological applications, and talent development.

The signing ceremony took place at ROCMA, where NUK President Chen Chi-Jen and ROCMA President Tan Fang-Jung signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions, witnessed by senior administrators from both universities—marking a new phase in their collaborative relationship.

President Chen noted that ROCMA, with its century-long history, plays a pivotal role in national development and talent cultivation. Since forming the strategic alliance in 2020, the two institutions have built a strong foundation of trust through collaborations in cross-registration, teaching and research, and academic exchange. These efforts have fostered meaningful faculty and student engagement, laying the groundwork for this renewed partnership.

He further emphasized that, in response to the rapid growth of the southern Taiwan technology corridor, NUK has actively developed talent in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and high-tech fields. Through partnerships with major domestic and international enterprises, the university has promoted specialized programs and course certifications to enhance students’ interdisciplinary competencies and practical skills. The College of Science and related departments possess strong capabilities in both fundamental sciences and advanced technological applications, which can be further aligned with national defense needs through collaboration with ROCMA.

President Tan highlighted that NUK’s long-term investment in advanced technology and academic research aligns closely with ROCMA’s mission to cultivate modern military officers. Through the strategic alliance, both institutions can establish stable collaboration mechanisms in faculty exchange, curriculum development, and academic research, enabling cadets to engage with emerging technological trends during their formative training and enhancing overall educational quality.

Tan also pointed out that, in response to rapid technological advancements and evolving defense environments, ROCMA is actively transforming and upgrading its officer education programs. In addition to traditional leadership and tactical training, greater emphasis is being placed on technological literacy, interdisciplinary thinking, and decision-making capabilities. Through collaboration with NUK, the academy aims to integrate academic and military education resources to cultivate defense professionals with forward-looking perspectives and a strong sense of national mission.

According to the renewed agreement, both institutions will continue to promote shared teaching resources, cross-institutional course enrollment, faculty and student exchanges, and joint research initiatives. NUK students will be encouraged to apply for Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) or professional military officer programs, while ROCMA alumni will be eligible to apply for graduate programs at NUK—fostering a two-way linkage between academic and military education systems.

Following the signing ceremony, ROCMA arranged a visit for NUK delegates to the “Whampoa Military Academy History Museum,” where participants explored nearly a century of historical archives and artifacts, reflecting on the academy’s development while engaging in discussions on institutional governance and educational philosophy.
