In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, the National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) organized a campus-wide appreciation initiative led by the Office of Human Resources. On the afternoon of March 6, Vice President Chuang Hsiu-Hui joined members of the university’s leadership team in visiting colleges, administrative offices, and campus centers to extend holiday greetings and express gratitude to faculty and staff members.

Vice President Chuang noted that International Women’s Day is not only an opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements, but also a reminder of the ongoing importance of gender equality and women’s rights. She explained that this year’s event was expanded for the first time to include all faculty and staff members, reflecting the idea that “everyone deserves to be seen and supported.” The initiative aimed to make gender-inclusive values a more visible part of everyday workplace culture.

To commemorate the occasion, the university prepared colorful woven phone straps as gifts for faculty and staff. The seven different color designs symbolized the idea of “connecting diversity and securing respect in everyday life.” The gifts also served as a gesture of appreciation for the contributions made by employees in teaching, research, administrative services, and family responsibilities.

Vice President Chuang added that visiting departments and interacting directly with colleagues helped create a warm festive atmosphere across campus while allowing staff members to feel appreciated and supported amid their busy work schedules.

NUK emphasized that fostering a workplace environment rooted in diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect remains an important part of its broader campus sustainability efforts and aligns with the principles of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5: Gender Equality).
