On March 16, the National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) held its 2025 Academic Year Outstanding Mentor Candidate Sharing Forum, bringing together mentor candidates recommended by various colleges to exchange experiences and engage in professional dialogue on student advising practices.

Organized by the Counseling and Guidance Division under NUK’s Office of Student Affairs, the event featured eight candidates for the university-level Outstanding Mentor Award. Participants shared their experiences in class management, student care, and mentoring practices, covering topics such as student life adjustment, mental health support, and faculty-student interactions. Through diverse perspectives and practical examples, the forum created opportunities for mentors to learn from one another and strengthen their frontline advising capabilities.

NUK President Chen Chi-Jen emphasized that beyond academic coursework, university students often need long-term guidance in areas such as life adjustment, psychological development, and character building. He noted that mentoring does not follow a fixed schedule or standardized model—it requires significant dedication, patience, and care from faculty members, making mentors an essential part of higher education support systems.

President Chen further stated that the mentorship system plays a critical role in helping students adapt to both academic and personal challenges. NUK continues to strengthen this support structure through faculty development programs and institutional initiatives designed to enhance mentors’ capacity to provide meaningful guidance throughout students’ academic journeys.

Dean of Student Affairs Wang Ming-Yueh added that today’s students face increasingly complex social environments, diverse streams of information, and various external pressures. As a result, mentors play an even more important role in supporting students’ personal development and helping guide their values and decision-making.

Through events like this, NUK continues to foster stronger support networks for students while promoting a culture of care, communication, and shared learning among faculty mentors.
