National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) and Kaohsiung Municipal Chung Shan Senior High School signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on June 4 to promote closer collaboration between secondary and higher education. The partnership will focus on curriculum articulation, educational resource sharing, and student exchange programs. It will also align with emerging trends in artificial intelligence (AI), digital technologies, net-zero transformation, and green talent development, enabling students to engage with university-level learning and professional fields at an earlier stage while enhancing career exploration and academic planning.

NUK President Chi-Ren Chen stated that, as a university bearing the name of Kaohsiung, NUK has long emphasized strong connections with local communities and schools. Through University Social Responsibility (USR) initiatives, digital education programs, and talent development projects, the university continues to strengthen partnerships with educational institutions throughout the region.

Chen noted that high school and university education should not be viewed as separate stages, but rather as a continuous pathway for talent cultivation. In recent years, NUK has actively invested in AI applications, digital technology education, and green workforce development. Through this collaboration, students will have opportunities to access university resources and interdisciplinary courses while still in high school, allowing them to explore their interests and future aspirations earlier and develop more forward-looking learning plans.

Chung Shan Senior High School Principal Hsiang-Yin Lin emphasized that, amid declining birth rates and rapid changes in the educational landscape, secondary education must continue to innovate and adapt to meet students’ diverse learning needs and career aspirations.

Lin pointed out that Chung Shan Senior High School and NUK are geographically close and have maintained a positive relationship for many years. By leveraging university resources, students will gain access to broader learning opportunities and earlier exposure to academic disciplines, helping them expand their perspectives on higher education and career development. She added that closer collaboration between high schools and universities will become increasingly important, with curriculum integration and resource sharing helping to strengthen student motivation and independent learning.

According to the MOU, the two institutions will jointly develop university preparatory courses eligible for academic credit recognition, organize interschool visits and exchange activities, and collaborate on student recruitment and educational outreach initiatives. Additional areas of cooperation may be developed based on future needs.

The agreement takes effect immediately upon signing and will remain valid for five years. It will automatically renew unless either party objects, ensuring a stable and long-term partnership.

Several collaborative initiatives have already begun, including carbon inventory talent development programs, AI education promotion, and professional certification training. Plans are also underway for senior high school students to attend courses at NUK during the summer before graduation and obtain relevant professional certifications.

Looking ahead, both institutions will continue expanding university preparatory courses, credit recognition mechanisms, and cross-campus learning opportunities. These efforts aim to create a seamless educational pathway from high school to university, strengthen local educational collaboration, and cultivate future-ready talent.
