NUK and R.O.C. Military Academy Deepen Inter-University Talent Development through Joint Micro-Credential Program in Engineering Applications and Systems Integration

The National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) and the R.O.C. Military Academy (ROCMA) are continuing to deepen their inter-university partnership. On July 8, the two institutions expanded their collaboration into college-level curriculum development, with Dean of the College of Science Yu-Min Hu and Director of Undergraduate Studies Kuei-Hu Chang signing a Micro-Credential Program Cooperation Agreement. Through the agreement, the two institutions will jointly launch the Micro-Credential Program in Engineering Applications and Systems Integration, integrating applied physics, computer programming, smart sensing, autonomous unmanned systems, and digital imaging to establish an interdisciplinary and inter-university talent development framework.
The Micro-Credential Program in Engineering Applications and Systems Integration was initiated and developed by Chin-Chung Yu, Associate Professor in NUK’s Department of Applied Physics. By integrating the distinctive teaching resources of both institutions, the program offers courses in computer programming, hands-on science, experimental physics, autonomous unmanned vehicles, quadrotor drone design, and image processing.
Students must complete at least seven credits, including at least one course offered by the partner institution, to receive a jointly issued micro-credential certificate from both institutions. The partnership also includes mechanisms for inter-university course enrollment, credit recognition, and pathways to further study, encouraging students to move beyond institutional and disciplinary boundaries and broaden their interdisciplinary learning experiences.
Dean Hu stated that NUK’s College of Science has long been committed to integrating fundamental science with emerging artificial intelligence technologies. The Department of Applied Physics has actively advanced teaching and research in applied physics, materials science, and optoelectronic technology, while ROCMA has established a strong foundation in engineering education, defense technology, and systems applications.
The jointly developed micro-credential program combines the educational strengths and distinctive resources of both institutions while incorporating emerging technologies into the curriculum. It aims to cultivate interdisciplinary professionals equipped with scientific knowledge, engineering practice, and systems integration capabilities.
Dean Hu further noted that inter-university collaboration extends beyond the exchange of courses and educational resources. It also provides students with opportunities to experience different learning environments. NUK students are expected to gain valuable insights into discipline and teamwork through ROCMA’s educational environment, while ROCMA students will be able to experience NUK’s diverse and open academic culture through cross-registration, fostering innovative thinking and interdisciplinary capabilities.
In response to the rapid advancement of smart and defense technologies, the micro-credential program is grounded in applied physics and covers key technologies such as autonomous unmanned vehicles, image processing, and systems integration. Students will develop an understanding of the fundamental principles of sensors, optical imaging, flight mechanics, and signal analysis while further integrating smart control and artificial intelligence applications. This interdisciplinary approach is designed to strengthen students’ ability to solve practical problems and integrate knowledge across multiple fields.
NUK and ROCMA renewed the second phase of their strategic alliance on January 9, 2026, continuing their collaboration in teaching, research, and talent development. The signing of the micro-credential cooperation agreement marks the expansion of the partnership from a university-level strategic alliance to the practical implementation of college-level academic programs.
Through inter-university course enrollment, credit recognition, jointly issued certificates, and faculty exchange, the two institutions will further promote educational resource sharing and jointly cultivate a new generation of professionals equipped to meet the evolving needs of smart sensing, defense technology, and high-tech industries.
